It's inscribed on the bottom 'Stiefel Hoselton' and the number '109'. Using my 'I'm a Librarian's Daughter' secret decoder kit (Google.com), I garnered the following:
-The Hoselton company is a Canadian manufacturer of small aluminum figurines, many of which have a Canadian theme (loons, beavers, poutine, etc.) The pieces they sell now are
-E-bay has a few vintage Stiefel Hoselton figurines. They appear to be worth.....not much. But they are really beautiful.
What is it about this little thing? It TOTALLY cracks me up.
That little beaver is just so cute.
ReplyDeleteAwwww! :-/ Don't you hate it when that happens?! I' on the hunt for some info on a particulat Singer sewing machine I own. I'm having a TIME finding any info on it. Or on a Faberge' umbrella I've been hunting info for for the longest. It's taxing my poor 3 brain cells completely! LOL At least I can get a smile looking at your beaver! :-)
ReplyDeleteMakes me giggle too. I vote for random beaver posts every now and then...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what's up with it, but you're right it's pretty funny!!
ReplyDeleteOy, what happened indeed!
ReplyDeleteThey do still make the beaver - or a version of it. Not as good as yours, though!
Next time you're in Ontario - let me know. We're going to Smoke's for some poutine.
i think your beaver might rival my foster for cutest small animal (except morgan, of course)!!

So cute :) I have a tiny gecko and a lobster!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! It's interesting to know the history behind this little guy!
ReplyDeleteOh he is just so cute! Way to be a super slueth and find out his family tree!
ReplyDeleteHe is seriously adorable. As you know, I'm also a huge sucker for midcentury stuff--and this one is a definite find. love it.
ReplyDeleteThe mascot at the school where I work is the BEAVERS! I love it!
ReplyDeleteToo funny ... I got an angel as a present from Gordon Hoselton himself - as I was an exchange student that was sponsored by his Rotary Club. He's a very nice guy and showed me around his house and the area where those figures are produced. That was in 1997 .. and about 10 yrs later I stumbled across a large canadian goose perched on a white stone (I'm from Germany if you haven't already realized it! *g*). Turns out, the seller didn't know what he had there and sold it for 2 $ to me. It was a piece of S. Hoselton himself - now I have both Hoseltons here displayed. I have to admit that I prefer the works and designs of the elder Hoselton, too.
ReplyDeleteI love it! And it cracks me up too! It reminds me of a graphic design project where the teacher enforced so many rules that it was nearly impossible to make the form a distinct beaver...ah, memories...
