The Pause That Refreshes. Or Maybe Just a Pause.

I know I am milking these projects, but finishing the patio and upper back porch projects really sucked dry my DIY renovation energy. Or maybe it's the heat? All I know is this: when I get home from my real job, the nightly conversation (in my head) goes like this:

Me: Boy, I should really scrub the lower back porch concrete floor so it is prepped for painting. Then I only have to paint it, and the lower back porch will be done and I can move onto finalizing colors for the front porch.

Also Me: or I could have a beer.

Can you guess who wins? Hint: beer.

  2. Milk is good for you.* So milk away, I say. Especially when the patio looks so damn good.

*Beer is good for you, too.

  3. sometimes you need to take a breath (or a beer) step back and actually admire your handiwork for a day or four. in this heat, hydration is key, so drink away!

  4. That looks so great, I think a beer while you bask in the accomplishment that is your back yard is a perfect ending to any day!

But I so get you on the guilty conscience part...I have similar conversations with myself, with alarming regularity.

  7. Had a similar conversation today about entering the jungle of the "back 40" and clearing out another section of 3 foot weeds. Must be something in the cosmos.

That yard is so peaceful...I hope you had a beer and took it all in.

  8. this is gorgeous. i love the speckled light coming through. that time of day (around 7pm in our back yard this time of year) makes me hurry for a beer and a lounge chair on the deck, too. don't feel bad. enjoy it.

  12. Your plants are looking so lush, and your garden so cool... Of course you need to enjoy it, other wise what's the point? Have a beer, feel the breeze, I would.

  18. I had that conversation a lot this summer during my front garden and porch renovation. Beer was even more tempting on those 90+ degree days.
