Oh my goodness, that's awful. I'm so glad no one was hurt! I agree with the other commenter who said fast-growing trees! Birches are nice, or you could go with the Zelkova (japanese elm) they're beautiful and grow pretty well!

Holy cow! Well I'm glad no one was hurt. At least switching from shade to sun is easier than the other way around. Many shade plants do OK or better with more sun.

Oh man. That's a tough one to deal with. I'm glad no one was hurt. How old was that tree? It was magnificent. I'm thinking fast-growing evergreens? (I can't help with type because I'm in the south and you're obviously not).
