Apologies for the incredibly tardy comment, but I thought it was called a greensward. At least that's what I've been calling it. Ours is grass, boring old grass. But as we are in a dog-friendly neighborhood I figured I'd rather have them do their business on grass than on flowers (or our actual yard) instead. Your solution is lovely, though!

I know they can sometimes be a little over-used but any Sedum variety would look awesome there too. And they are SUPER low maintenance.

We call it the parkway in Dallas. The city provides free trees to plant in ours in my historic neighborhood. Yours looks great! Makes me want to eliminate our grass and do all landscaping.

My parents have some neighbors that grow vegetables in theirs. I love driving by their house.

We have one, too, but the neighbors are responsible for mowing about 1/5 of it. Of course, we don't don't mow at the same height, so it's now a bilevel strip. Horrible.

Great idea! I don't know what it's called, but we don't have one--sidewalks are only on one side of the street (the other side, in our case) for most of our neighborhood.

I don't have an area like that, but I do have a spot near the road that I have to push mow because the pine trees have grown so much that I can no longer use the rider mower..pain for sure! In town many people have done what you did, landscape with plants and flowers...it's really pretty and yours looks so nice and neat. Good Job!

this looks great. we are lucky to not have on of these but some of our neighborhood streets do, and these strips are a MAJOR point of contention-- they are public property, but there are a few crazy/non-dog-friendly grouches in our neighborhood who will yell at you if you let your dog poop in their strip. i am not afraid and yell right back, but other neighbors take the fight to our community listserve. pretty entertaining stuff :)

alas, i don't have a landing strip, i'm a country girl. yours looks great and i bet pretty soon all your neighbors will be tidying up theirs, too!
